Peps' Reading List: Weekly Manga Update

Here's this week's manga update from my reading list.

There are lots of big moments in manga this week, with Itachi revealing Izanami's nature to Sasuke in Naruto, the truth about the Arcobaleno revealed in Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, and the beginning of the Quincy's attack on Soul Society in Bleach.

But the biggest moment is undoubtedly found in Fairy Tail and The World God Only Knows.

Following Natsu's declaration last week that Sabertooth will never win against Fairy Tail, this week showcased the prowess of Erza as she defeats 100 evil monsters by herself to show the true strength of her guild.

This week also marked the end of the Goddess Arc on TWGOK, which marks the end of Vintage.  The arc also ended with Katsuragi in a state of non-video game related emotions.

Officially fangirling out right now.

Spoiler's ahead! This post contains detailed summaries.  So if you would prefer to read them yourself, please visit your favorite scanlation sites, or buy the manga to support the mangakas.

Naruto  Chapter 587: Once It Becomes 9 PM
While Kabuto is imprisoned in the loop caused by Izanami, Sasuke asks about the nature of Itachi's jutsu.  Itachi confirms that the jutsu began when he was first stabbed by Kabuto and that the jutsu activates by the body senses of the user and the opponent.  By creating a mental photograph based on the movements of the two opposing forces, the user of the Izanami can create a loop.  Itachi tells Sasuke that that Izanami comes at the price of one's eyesight and that the loop is not really endless, giving the user a chance to change the fate if the fight is not going according to their plan in order to get the desired results.  Itachi also tells Sasuke about the nature of the Izanagi jutsu among the Uchiha and the role of the Izanami to stop two Uchiha members from using Izanagi at the same time.  He tells Sasuke that Izanami is used to stop the conceit and neglect that develop in those that use Izanagi, which is why Kabuto can escape the loop once he accepts that he only needs to be himself instead of trying to be like Orochimaru or all the other personalities he consumed.  Itachi tells Sasuke that Kabuto was like him before he realized that he needed to trust in other people's strengths, including Sasuke.  He tells Sasuke the value of attracting counterparts who can help them find the right direction, advising him to find what Itachi never did.  Kabuto is helpless in the face of the Izanami loop and thinks about his desire for someone to acknowledge him.  Meanwhile, at 9PM, two shinobi talk about what they intend to do after the war.  One of the shinobi, Urushi, invites the other to come with him to the orphanage, where he hopes that Kabuto will finally return to.  Itachi declares that he will stop the Edo Tensei.

Bleach  Chapter 587: Light of Happiness
Much to everyone's shock, Kirge Opie is able to survive Allon's barrage of attacks.  Allon is easily obliterated by Kirge, who uses Sklaverei, an ability that makes any spirit particle his subordinate.  The Sklaverei makes it possible to absorb Allon's power as Kirge's own, turning him into something monstrous.  The Tres Bestias use their powers to hide themselves, Inoue, Sado and Nel, but Kirge easily absorbs the spirit particles they used for the barrier.  Kirge begins to absorb the Tres Bestias, Inou, Sado and Nel.  Ichigo attacks him from behind, releasing his Bankai in the process.  Ichigo tells him that he just needs to break the mask on Kirge's head in order to stop the spirit particle absorption, but Kirge tells him that understanding is not the same as being able to actually do it.  Kajoumaru gives Ryuunosuke words of comfort to ease his fear about the attack, when the Quincy King appears overhead, revealing that he is already within the protective membrane of Soul Society.

One Piece  Chapter 668: Pirate Alliance
Trafalgar offers Luffy the chance to ally with each other in his plan to defeat one of the Four Emperors.  Despite Nami in Franky's body's protest, Luffy asks which Emperor Trafalgar wanted to defeat.  Trafalgar answers, prompting Luffy to agree.  Luffy and Nami in Franky's body returns to the rest of the crew, shocking Usopp, Robin and Chopper in Sanji's body with the news of their alliance with the Heart Pirates.  Robin decides to follow Luffy, but reminds her captain that alliances among pirates usually come with betrayal.  Luffy acknowledges the possibility, but expresses his confidence in his crew and their two year training.  Trafalgar returns the Chopper and Franky back to their respective bodies, but since Sanji in Nami's body is still unaccounted for, Nami is temporarily placed in Sanji's body.  They turn their attention to the children, with Trafalgar telling them that the government has been trying to perfect giantification in order to turn soldiers into giants.  He asks if the Straw Hat Pirates intends to save the children, and Luffy tells him that they will all be staying on the island until the children can be returned home safely and when the samurai regains his entire body, forcing Trafalgar to go along with his plan even if the problems have nothing to do with the alliance.  He tells them to focus on the samurai, while he figures out the drugs used on the children.  Since Chopper can't move, they tie him on Trafalgar's head, prompting Trafalgar to tie Chopper to his sword like a charm instead.  Trafalgar warns them about Caesar and his plans, with Luffy agreeing to capturing Caesar together.  The Straw Hat Pirates ask about the ransom for Caesar, but Trafalgar tells them that he is aiming for chaos.  He tells Luffy the plan, giving him a final chance to rethink their alliance before the point of no return comes upon them.  Meanwhile, the G5 Marines fight against the centaurs in an effort to find a ship to make their report about Punk Hazard.  Caesar decides to unleash his pet creature Slime, which is housed on the burning part of the island and destroys everything in its path, including the centaur soldiers that unlocked its gates.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!  Chapter 386: The Fated Day and the Representative War
Tsuna is incredulous that there are things that Reborn doesn't know, prompting his mentor to answer that he doesn't know anything about the secrets of the Arcobaleno.  The battle watches announce the end of the third day of the representative battle, prompting Tsuna and Reborn to look for the exit.  They see another mural on the cave walls, showing Checker-Face with seven figures.  By widening the light, they see the seven figures under the sun, with the image of mountains in between the illustrations.  Reborn comments that it's "The Fated Day", explaining to Tsuna that before they became the Arcobaleno, they were given a series of missions which they accomplished, eventually strengthening their abilities and teamwork.  They were given a final task to climb a mountain and search for treasure, but upon reaching the top were bathed in light and became Arcobaleno with the pacifiers around their necks.  He also tells Tsuna about how Colonello had taken Lal's place, receiving the full effect of the curse, while she receives its partial effects.  Tsuna and Reborn realize that while The Fated Day is illustrated, the murals also show that the representative battle is also drawn on the walls.  Bermuda appears, telling them that it is a cycle, with the representatives illustrating their fated days and representative battles with the last breath of their lives.  Bermuda offers to tell them the truth, but tells them to remove their watches so Checker Face will not listen in.  The two leave their battle watches and join Bermuda in a room where electronic devices don't work.  Bermuda begins his story, telling that a long time ago, the babies of the seven strongest, the Arcobaleno, existed.  He tells them that the Arcobaleno were human sacrifices that Checker Face chose to protect the pacifiers, with the strongest in every era chosen to protect them.  Since the Arcobaleno can't live forever, the next group is chosen through contract jobs or through a representative battle, with each event spaced apart so no one will remember.  Bermuda informs them that the current representative battle is being used to determine the next batch of Arcobaleno.  He reveals that removing the pacifier from the previous bearer will kill the person or will live to lead a cursed life filled with revenge.  It is revealed that the Vindice are those who survived their roles as former Arcobaleno.  Reborn shows no surprise, knowing that he will eventually die because of the curse.  Bermuda confirms to Tsuna that he joined the representative battle to gain revenge on Checker Face in the few moments that he will reveal himself to turn the strongest group into the next Arcobaleno.  Bermuda asks Reborn for his help to prevent future tragedies.

Fairy Tail  Chapter 284: Pandemonium
Yukino hears about Natsu's actions the previous night, but brushes it off as a rumor.  The third day of the Dai-Matou Enbu begins, with the Magic Council's Lahar filling in as the guest commentator.  Doranbolt sits among the spectators, thinking about how Lahar had ordered him to come as well in order for him to see that Fairy Tail is alive and well after the events seven years past.  The day's competition is called Pandemonium, with each guild providing one participant.  Erza from Fairy Tail A, Cana from Fairy Tail B, Millianna from Mermaid Heel, Obra from Raven Tail, Hibiki from Blue Pegasus, Orga from Sabertooth, Jura from Lamia Scale and Novally from Quattro Puppy join.  Pandemonium's setting is a temple where 100 evil monsters of varying levels nest.  Pandemonium involves deciding on the number of monsters that each one has to defeat until all of the monsters, which are horribly strong, are defeated or if everyone's magic level reaches 0.  Each defeated monster, regardless of the rank, will gain a participant one point.  The others discuss how deciding on the number of opponents and the recovery time between each battle will be crucial.  Erza draws the first number in the lot and reveals that she considered the contest to be a luck of the draw.  Erza declares that she will fight all 100 monsters.  Despite the game organizer's protests, Erza tells them that she doesn't care and enters the temple.  Lysanna narrates that she will never forget the events of the third day of the Dai-Matou Enbu, as they all witness how Erza the Titania defeat one monster after another.  The Fairy Tail guild members rejoice, as the rest of the spectators watch in shock.  Doranbolt, Millianna and Lysanna watch with tears in their eyes as they all witness Erza, covered in wounds, defeat all 100 monsters of Pandemonium.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi  Chapter 474: Abyss of Death
Jenazad challenges Sakaki to come up, holding Hongo's beaten body up.  Kenichi asks his master if he will just let Hongo die like that.  Sakaki recalls the time when he, Hongo and Suzuki on one of their missions to take down the arms dealing of Yami years before.  Sakaki and Hongo decided to end things quickly since they have to fight in a karate tournament the following day, and began their attack with Suzuki right behind them.  As they took down the opponents, they noticed a woman and child cowering in the corner.  Hongo was shocked that there were hostages, and when an enemy soldier appeared to shoot, tried to protect the two.  Sakaki, realizing that Hongo will be unable to dodge the bullets, kicked the shooter.  The enemy realized that the two were protecting the hostages, thus limiting their movements, and started shooting.  Suzuki took the hostages out of the way and Sakaki defeated the enemy soldiers.  But Hongo suffered from the bullet wounds and had to be taken to the hospital.  While Hongo lay unconscious, Sakaki decided to go to his tournament despite the wounds, remembering how Hongo wanted to participate in the tournament.  Sakaki defeated the opponents in the tournament one after another.  The hospital personnel panicked when they realized that Hongo disappeared.  Hongo joined the tournament and won it, keeping true to his words that he wanted to win.  As Sakaki recounts the story about Hongo's dedication to martial arts to Kenichi, Hongo opens his eyes and moves to attack Jenazad.
