The 38th People's Choice Awards, hosted by The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco, featured this year's crop of winners based on fan votes.
I am glad to share that about 70% of those I voted for matched the winners listed below. As for the 30% that didn't win... One must always learn to accept the power of the teen votes. Or at least understand that not everyone will have the same refined tastes as you do.
All in all, the 38th People's Choice Awards was an okay show. It wasn't as exciting as I would have hoped, but still pretty interesting. At least presenters and winners don't have to contend with the constant screaming of fans in certain demographic centered award shows.
Here are some of my comments, random thoughts and one burning question relating to the show. Or you can just skip ahead to check out the results. :)
- The Big Bang Theory is currently the US's biggest comedy series in terms of ratings, so it's only natural that the series and its always-game-for-a-skit cast will have something hilarious to contribute. You should expect this to happen every time there's an award show featuring television categories. Or award shows hosted by Kaley Cuoco.
- Neil Patrick Harris should be in every award show. And I demand that he be allowed a musical number in each one. Since his schtick on the People's Choice Awards is a failed attempt at a musical number, he should have another chance to dazzle us at a different awards show this year. And since you didn't get him as your host.... Yes, I'm looking at you, 84th Academy Awards.
- I didn't know if any of the local channels were airing the show, so I relied on the wonders of the internet to watch it elsewhere (ehem), which means that I don't have to endure seemingly endless commercial spots. Unfortunately, the award show's producers decided to waste precious minutes of air time on various endorsements. Kudos to Judd Apatow for taking a jab at a promotional spot that was really.... well, useless. Those minutes could have been better spent on the other awards or categories they couldn't fit in the hour and a half show.
- And much like NPH, Jane Lynch should be in every award show as well. Loved her as Eloise Dunk, seat coordinator extraordinaire.
- I watched the Video Game Awards a few weeks ago and realized something after watching the People's Choice Awards.... Zachary Levi sure likes his plaid suits.
- Biggest fangirl win for me was Nathan Fillion winning Favorite Drama Actor for Castle. Also, best acceptance speech of the night.... "To the fans... Let this giant crystallized tear of victory be a symbol of your excellent taste."
- Big night for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (Yay!) with four wins in the movie categories, so why didn't any of the cast represent the film to accept the awards (Boo.)?

Again, much like my post on the Teen Choice Awards 2011, I only included the winners in the film and TV categories. If you want the full list of winners that include the music category, then you can check out the People's Choice official site.
Oh, there is one winner in the music category that I care about for, after all....
Congratulations to Maroon 5 for winning Favorite Band!
