The MTV Movie Awards is yet another awards show that is voted by the fans, which means you're hard pressed to find Oscar contenders among its list of nominees, much less its winners.
While not featuring the same amount of screaming teenage girls as the Teen Choice Awards, the MTV Movie Awards is followed by the same fandom demographic for blockbuster films. This fact is all the more highlighted by host Russel Brand's sudden and instant declamations of "Twilight!" and "Hunger Games!".
The 2012 MTV Movie Awards features the same formula this year. A revolving door of celebrity presenters, crass humor, bleeped out swearing and a handful of golden popcorn buckets given out as trophies, all presided over by Russel Brand, who delivered one line after another in such rapid succession that I was left breathless every time he delivered a monologue.
This year's program showcased a great opening with the infectious performance of "We Are Young" by the band Fun and Janelle Monae, and a touching moment when the cast of The Dark Knight Rises showed a clip of the first two installments of Christopher Nolan's eventual trilogy featuring the caped crusader. Christian Bale's emotional comment about how good it was to see Heath Ledger on screen was reflective of how fans felt.
All in all, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards was a fun show, although it did feature some moments and dialogue that were not really funny or just plain awkward.
