A few days ago, I posted the list of my favorite fall TV series titles and their premiere dates (new and ongoing). As I count down the days to September and its TV treasures, I content myself with new episodes of True Blood, Leverage, Falling Skies and a number of new anime titles that premiered for Japan's summer season. When I have exhausted all of my options, I resort to one of the many skills I picked up from my dad... channel surfing.
So, on those couch potato moments, I find that there are some programs that make me stop pressing the channel + button. These are TV shows that I find interesting, but don't religiously follow. Ranging from reality shows to TV dramas, this is my Fall TV Series Lineup... the Unofficial List.
America's Next Top Model
This is probably my top guilty pleasure. I would never follow it regularly, but I would somehow know when it's airing in the local and cable channels. A group of girls audition to become America's Next Top Model, and go through make-overs, catfights, go-sees and elimination. Which are all fun and interesting. I just don't get why the girls scream so much.
NCIS
Currently America's top procedural drama, this Mark Harmon-led ensemble is serious, but offers biting humor from its gifted cast. It's hard to miss, because Fox shows it everyday and has a marathon in the weekend. However, I would only watch this if Marvin is around, because I only started watching recently and still have yet to familiarize myself with the different characters, and require commentary.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
This is probably the first procedural that I faithfully watched since its inception, until Gil Grisson (William Peterson) left. But I still enjoy my occasional CSI episodes that I encounter via AXN. Though I can't say the same for its spin-off spawns CSI: New York (despite Gary Sinise's always compelling performance) and CSI: Miami (which should really be called the Horatio Crane show).
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
I remember watching the original Extreme Makeover show, where the makeover really is extreme and done on people who undergo plastic surgery to become better versions of themselves (or so the producers say). Needless to say, I didn't continue watching that version. I first saw Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on the Lifestyle Network, and I found it immensely enjoyable and uplifting. Hosted by Ty Pennington, the show chooses people who need new homes the most, and brings in a dream team of architects and interior designs to create literal dream homes.
The Amazing Race
Definitely at the top of my favorite reality program list, The Amazing Race outstrips others in its genre in terms of scope and logistics. Melding travel and competition has never seemed more fun. And kudos to Phil Koeghan for his exceptional hosting skills, who got the job after losing the Survivor hosting gig to Jeff Probst.
Bones
When news of this show first came out last 2005, I was excited because it starred David Boreanaz, who I used to watch in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I started watching the show, and enjoyed the chemistry between Booth and Bones (played by Emily Deschanel). Though I never got to faithfully follow the series, I still enjoy weekend marathons of Bones on Fox.
Gossip Girl
I watch this for two things... Ed Westwick, and the voice of Kristen Bell as the Gossip Girl.
