This took a while for me to write. I lack sleep, so my thought process isn't as fast as it should be.
Because I became Nerd # 15243.
This all started when I decided to follow Zachary Levi from the Chuck TV series on Twitter. Soon afterwards, I saw his post asking people to follow The Nerd Machine. Which I did, and enjoyed the many tweets that came thereafter. I checked out the website in passing, but wasn't able to devote the time to go through everything for reasons I can no longer remember.
A few days ago, I finally got around to checking everything the website had to offer. I found myself signing in with my Facebook account, and the next thing I know, it's six hours later and I had to pry my hands off the mouse and force myself to go to sleep.
The Nerd Machine is Zachary Levi's brainchild for all the nerds of the world. This is where you can be the nerd that people see you as, and be proud to do so. And this is the place to unleash the nerd or the geek (never the dork) in you that you couldn't let out before or didn't know you had.
The main draw for me was the forum, where anybody can start a thread on their favorite topics, which is varied, seeing as how people can be a nerd about anything. I, of course, gravitated towards the TV series, movie and book categories. I posted my thoughts on some of them, but it was fun just to read what other people wrote. It didn't matter that I didn't know who any of them were, but I felt a sense of like-mindedness that made me feel that there really aren't any strangers in this particular community. We were all just happy to share what we think of the things we love.
So, as I drifted off to sleep after that first night I signed up at The Nerd Machine, I only had one thought in my mind.
That was one cool robot.
Oh, and I want that Sega-inspired Nerd t-shirt. :)Labels: Musings, Nerd Machine, Zachary Levi
