Peps' Reading List: Weekly Manga Update

Here's this week's manga update from my reading list.

Naruto  Chapter 596: One Jutsu
Tobi seems to realize something that surprises him, which Kakashi and Gai also notice.  The two teachers tell Naruto that a crack has appeared on Tobi's mask.  Kakashi tells them that the crack didn't seem to be because of Naruto's earlier attack.  Just as he is about to realize the cause for the crack, Ko calls their attention to tell them that the Mazou is open for attack.  Tobi immediately reacts by creating a barrier to block Ko's attack.  Naruto's group turn their attention back to Tobi, with Kakashi returning to his earlier assessment of the crack on Tobi's mask.  Kakashi remembers that when he unleashed the Kamui to use against the Mazou, Tobi had used his eye to make the Mazou disappear, which included the kunai that Kakashi threw.  He forms a plan, asking the others to help him, with Tobi watching as they discuss their next action.  Ko throws Naruto, Kakashi and Gai towards Tobi, with Kakashi and Gai directly engaging Tobi and their attacks going through him.  After Gai makes his move, Naruto moves in to attack with a rasengan, which disappear.  Naruto passes through Tobi's corporeal form, when Tobi's arm gets damaged.  Kakashi tells Tobi that, while he originally thought that the abilities to become transparent and taking objects are separate, he has come to realize that Tobi is only using one jutsu.

One Piece  Chapter 676: The Perfected Weapon of Mass Destruction
Caesar watches in anticipation as Smiley ate the giant candy bait he set out for it.  The others watch as Caesar shouts for Smiley's rebirth.  Smiley bellows, causing both Caesars men, and the group of Zoro, Sanji in Nami's body, Brook and Kinemon to run faster away from the slime monster.  Smiley moves towards the sled left behind by Caesar's men.  The apples in the sled start to show strange patterns.  Caesar calls out to Smiley, telling it to become the mass weapon of destruction Shi-No-Kuni and transform Punk Hazard.  Zoro and the others watch in horror as Smiley transforms from slime into gas.  One of Caesar's men lags behind and gets caught in the gas and his companions watch in horror as he gets deformed, prompting them to run faster to escape the gas.  Caesar rejoices at the sight, revealing that he has overcome the weakness of the previous version of the weapon, which still allowed for mobility that accounted for the previous survivors.  Caesar also reveals that he has modified Smiley into Shi-No-Kuni, incorporating a paralytic so no one can run away and receive the full effects of the poison.  Luffy and his companions, as well as the underground brokers, watch as the gas catches up to the rest of Caesar's men, causing them to be covered in ash and unable to move.  The G-5 Marines under Smoker's command are also watching the video and discuss what they have just witnessed.  They soon discover that the events are happening right on Punk Hazard and that Shi-No-Kuni is right behind them, making them realize the true intent behind Caesar's lock down of his research lab.  Meanwhile, Zoro and the others continue their flight and they notice something running ahead of them.  They realize that it's the dragon that ran ahead of Caesar's men and they wonder if they can capture it, then make it fly so they can escape.  Luffy sees his companions on screen, prompting Caesar to torment him with the knowledge that they will eventually run out of breath and will also fall under the effects of Shi-No-Kuni.  Caesar tells them that only those within the research lab will survive and switches on the mechanism that will transfer their cage outside, where they will also die because of the gas.  Chopper watches in fear at the fate of his companions and is about to make a move when he is hit on the head with a paper with the instructions not to make a move.  The G-5 Marines see their commanders and the other prisoners appear above them, and they ask Smoker and Tashigi what they should do.  Smoker and Tashigi listen in disbelief as Luffy and the others discuss what they can obtain from the research lab.   Then Trafalgar tells Luffy that they should continue with their plan and that they should begin their counterattack.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!  Chapter 396: Allied Team
Bermuda and Jager find themselves facing off against the team made up of Mukuro, Xanxus, Squalo, Dino and Byakuran.  Verde and Mammon also join the group.  Bermuda looks down on their enemies, stating that he considers Tsuna to be the strongest among them, but would be easily beaten by Jager.  Reborn replies that the team's personality makes them formidable, which Dino recounting what happened during the strategy meeting.  Tsuna discussed their plan to go after the Vindice one by one, but stressed Jager's strenght.  What ensued afterwards is a declaration by Byakuran, Xanxus and Mukuro to defeat the strongest Vindice by themselves, with each one stating that they won't participate if they don't fight Jager.  Dino suggested the solution to create a commando unit to take care of the other Vindice members, allowing the rest to deal with Jager.  The commando unit was chosen based on their mobility and their ability to work together.  Since they can all fly, Tsuna, Enma and Basil made up the commando unit to take care of Jager's companions, while the rest focused on Jager.  Bermuda tells them that their plan has a flaw, because they underestimated the battle strength Big Pino and Small Gia, who are just discovering that they are fighting with a combination of puppets and real people.  Small Gia surmises that their enemies' strategy involves buying time and directs Big Pino to shoot.  The shot aims true, immediately neutralizing the group made up of Gokudera, Yamamoto, Chrome and Flan.  Yamamoto shouts at Chrome and Flan to run, but Big Pino shoots again before they could do so.  When the flames die down, the Vindice members realize that the four are floating in the air.  Tsuna, Enma and Basil appear, prompting Small Gia to feel excited.  Small Gia tells Big Pino that they need to use their other weapons, and Big Pino transforms to reveal his true self carrying many weapons.

Fairy Tail  Chapter 294: Battle of Dragon Slayers
The anticipation for the final battle of the day, the Dream Dragon Slayer Match, is high, with the members of Fairy Tail cheering on Natsu and Gajeel.  The two face off against Sabertooth's Rogue and Sting, with the latter expressing his excitement after waiting to battle Natsu for a long time.  The match begins, with Rogue and Sting quickly moving to make their first move.  To their surprise, Natsu and Gajeel move fast also, suddenly appearing in front of their faces and surprising them.  Natsu and Gajeel, respectively, make the first attacks, causing their opponent to be pushed back.  Natsu and Gajeel immediately follows up with another.  Sting counters with the White Dragon's roar that features a laser like quality at Natsu, who is able to evade, and at Gajeel, who is momentarily distracted, which creates an opening for Rogue to retaliate with Shadow Dragon's slash.  Gajeel is able to conjure the Iron Dragon's sword to block the attack in time and once again throws back Rogue with the sheer force of his counter.  Natsu catches Rogue in midair and drags him straight to Sting, unleashing Flame Dragon's Wing during impact.  The commentators and the audience are shocked at the spectacle of the Fairy Tail dragon slayers pressuring their Sabertooth counterparts.  Rogue and Sting get up, with Natsu asking if the power they showed was what they used to kill the dragons and asking how they can kill the dragons they should consider their parents.  Rogue and Sting conjure Shadow Drive and White Drive, respectively, with Sting telling Natsu that they will show them the power they used to kill the dragons.  The two are engulfed in flames and make their move, with Gemma declaring that it's over for the garbage guild.  Sting heads straight for Natsu and attacks him with the judgement of the holy white.  Meanwhile, Rogue attacks Gajeel, stating that shadows can't be captured, which Gajeel realizes meant that his attacks are deemed ineffective when Rogue seems to disperse whenever he is hit.  Mavis comments that the Sabertooth dragon slayers are using a magic amplification technique.  Sting continues his attacks, telling Natsu that he always looked up at Natsu and aimed to surpass him.  Stings attacks and marks Natsu with the White Dragon's Claw, which marks an enemy with a stigmata that will take his freedom away.  As Natsu is seemingly frozen in place, Gajeel is being hunted by Rogue who is using his shadow power effectively to hunt down his prey.  Rogue aims to hit Gajeel, but Gajeel catches his fist, while Natsu smiles as Sting launches himself at him to strike.  Natsu punches Sting before the Sabertooth member can land his attack.  Sting is shocked to find the stigmata on Natsu's stomach has been burned away.  Natsu and Gajeel both comment that the Sabertooth members are getting ahead of themselves and that their power is still not enough.  Natsu and Gajeel simultaneously punches Sting and Rogue, with the audience watching in further amazement.  Sting acknowledges their power and decide to use his best magic, the dragon slayers secret art Holy Nova, which is an explosive attack directed at Natsu.  The audience feel the effects of the explosion and they are shocked at the attack's ferocity.  But the smoke clears to reveal that Natsu caught Sting's fist, causing everyone to stare in shock.  Meanwhile, Rogue also tries to attack Gajeel to no avail.  Both Rogue and Sting get punched by Gajeel and Natsu, respectively.  Makarov notes their improvement after their three month training and Second Origin, while Yajima comments that the difference between the two groups of dragon slayers are far too different.  The audience match the excitement of the battle with their screams and the organizer watches with his jaw hanging open.  The commentators wonder if the Sabertooth dragon slayers will really be defeated without landing a serious blow on the Fairy Tail members.  Rogue and Sting get up on their feet, remembering their promise to overcome the wall of Natsu and Gajeel.  The two are once again covered in flames and start to show dragon markings on their skin.  Natsu and Gajeel are surprised, as Jellal expresses his disbelief that Rogue and Sting can activate their powers on their own.  Mavis recognizes their magic as Dragon Force.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi  Chapter 484: Even If This Body of Mine Is
The remaining members of the One Shadow Nine Fist are meeting, discussing the recent events involving Jenazad and Hongo.  They decide that, since Jenazad started the conflict, Hongo is not accountable and the incident is considered "unquestionable".  Later, Ogata asks Kushinada about her thoughts regarding the events, particularly if she thought that someone had a hand in Hongo's interference with the Furinji household.  While initially unwilling to share her thoughts, Kushinada comments that if it's true that the person involved might have a grudge against Elder Furinji, then the plan could be to have the Elder kill Hongo, who is deemed to be an unstable factor in their plans involving the Eternal Sunset.  Kushinada walks away, while Ogata laughs in mirth.  Kenichi and Miu share the events of the previous night with the members of the Shinpaku Alliance.  Nishida worries about Miu's state while the rest of the group discuss other topics, including going out on dates.  Chikage arrives to hand out with them, prompting Kenichi to state that he wishes for everyone to just hang around like they have been doing.  Tanimoto comments that it's impossible, prompting Kenichi to seek him out later to ask if he knows anything.  Tanimoto warns Kenichi that Ogata is determined to make his disciples part of Yami and will do everything, including turning those he can't turn into his own disciples into those who will be fodder for his current disciples.  Tanimoto tells Kenichi that someday he will not be Ogata's only target and that there will be fatalities.  Kenichi vows not to allow anyone to die even if his spirit is torn to pieces.  Miu and Renka overhears the exchange from the rooftop.  Renka comments that, as a member of the Phoenix Martial Arts Alliance, she is willing to also put her body on the line in case of such an event.  She asks if Miu is willing to do the same and she realizes that Miu is just smiling.  Rimi approaches Ogata and asks how she can become stronger.  Ogata notices the new look in her eyes and tells her to go with him to train in the mountains.

The World God Only Knows  Chapter 197: Steering Wheel
Keima joins Elsie, who points out that the orb started to glow and the light points to a certain direction.  Keima and Elsie fly towards the direction, with Keima resolved to follow the flow of events, hoping to get a clear answer on why he was sent back in time.  Elsie notices that the orb is showing a pattern made up of four vertical lines, but they realize that they are at their destination before they can figure out the pattern.  Their destination is the Akanemaru, the ship found in the Maijima sea park.  Elsie accidentally drops the orb and they look for it on the ship, while Keima wonders about the ship's significance.  They find the orb at the wheelhouse, but the orb seemingly passes through the floor when they try to retrieve it.  The floor suddenly glows, revealing a square outline, which in turn reveals steps going down.  They find the orb on top of a strange looking table with holes and spokes.  The orb is no longer shining, prompting Keima to note that they are already at their destination.  They wonder about the table, which Keima states gives him a bad feeling.  He points out that the table features holes, which seem to denote that the orb can be placed in them.  He places the orb in one of the holes, causing the orb to glow, but he points out that there's another hole, meaning that another orb is needed.  Keima wonders if he missed out on any clues.  Elsie tries to transfer the orb from one hole to another.  They suddenly hear a voice from outside and they venture out to see a figure standing on the mast of the ship.  Keima recognizes the girl from under the tree, remembering Tenri's words that he needs to save a girl that he may have met already.  The girl steps from the mast, and falls as Keima and Elsi watch in shock.  The girl lands on the ship's deck with an orb at her side and Keima wonders if she is the girl he has to save.
